CASALE MONTE VALESTRA ROOM & BREAKFAST

Activities, things to do and see

Pietra di Bismantova

The Pietra di Bismantova is a 1041 m high rock mass in the municipality of Castelnovo ne’ Monti (Reggio Emilia), always considered a sacred mountain and even cited by Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy as the “Mount of Purgatory”.
The Pietra is especially famous for climbing and Highlining due to its steep walls. The summit is easily reached in 20 minutes on foot and is a 12-hectare grassy plateau. There is also a circular trail that can be done on foot or by bicycle and passes through several local villages, with characteristic views of the mountain.

Carpineti Castle and other Matildic castles

We are in the lands of Matilda of Canossa.
Matilda of Canossa was one of the most important historical and political figures of the Middle Ages.
The closest castle to our B&B is Carpineti, built in 1077 AD. It also features a church and a restaurant. It is generally open on weekends from spring to autumn. It can be reached on foot from the parking lot via a short climb.
The other Matilda castles, for example, are Bianello, Sarzano, Canossa, and Rossena, all of which can be visited

Alpaca Trekking, Giant Benches, Tastings at the Parmigiano-Reggiano Dairy and Balsamic Vinegar Factory

We can organize and book many activities for you.

Alpaca trekking is a very simple activity suitable for adults and children.

The farm is about a 10-minute drive from our B&B.

Visits and tastings at the Parmigiano-Reggiano Dairy and the Balsamic Vinegar Factory allow you to sample Emilian food and wine specialties and purchase products directly from local producers.

The area is also dotted with colorful giant benches and hiking trails leading to them. (We have one very nearby—the yellow and blue San Cassiano Giant Bench.)

Emilian Apennines

The Emilian Apennines offer a variety of sports opportunities, including trekking, climbing, e-bike trails, and ski slopes.

Some beautiful places to visit include the Alpe di Cusna (2,120 meters above sea level), where the ascent reaches a refuge at 1,500 meters, Mount Ventasso with Lake Calamone, and the Cerreto Laghi pass, which connects Emilia to Tuscany.

The Ferrari Museum in Maranello (Modena) tells the story of the famous Prancing Horse. It’s recommended to book tickets online at www.ferrari.com.

The nearby towns along the Via Emilia allow you to discover the history of the Italian flag (the Tricolore) and the Piazza dei Leoni in nearby Reggio Emilia, the ancient Albinelli market and the Ghirlandina bell tower in nearby Modena, the Teatro Regio and the Giuseppe Verdi monument in Parma. These cities will allow you to taste the Emilian food and wine specialties: fresh pasta, Parma ham, Parmigiano Reggiano from Reggio Emilia, and balsamic vinegar from Modena.
